Good Business but No Growth?

I love the period just before New Year.

It’s a time that I use to reflect on past successes and failures and be thankful for all the things that went right in the year.

I believe that considering the year that has just passed in some detail is a cathartic but a very important process.

It not only helps you put your successes and failures into context, it also reminds you of actually how lucky you are to do what you do.

Whilst this time of year is great for planning the year ahead, one of the reasons why I wrote How Successful Business People Plan Their Year, I also reflect on all those good businesses out there that are just not growing.

To me, there is nothing more frustrating than knowing that there are millions of good businesses out there that are just not achieving their true potential.

I try and help as many as I can with consulting, mentoring or even through speaking engagements but my mission is to help at least 5,000 good businesses grow in the next 5 years which is why I created The Monaghan Method.

The Monaghan Method online course contains all the insights that I have gained over the last 30 years and to help these good businesses achieve more than they thought possible. It’s actually quite simple when you know how.

But what do you think is holding back these good businesses?

And, why do you think that so many of these good businesses end up failing?

It’s not a lack of energy, commitment or ability.

I’ve talked to many entrepreneurs, managing directors and CEOs that run and or own good businesses and they are committed, very able and full of energy. I think that there are a number of issues here but one of the things that holds these businesses back is the negative psychology of talking turnover instead of focusing on profit.

However, it’s more than this...

Certainly, my experience of working with good businesses all over the world suggests to me that the core reason why good businesses seem to plateau is because...

there isn’t a good game plan in place.

This is often the case for many reasons but one of them is that the owner, founder or CEO does not always have the knowledge or confidence to create a clear and actionable game plan.

I’ve found many owners and CEOs are brilliant at a delivering or creating the product or service, in fact many of them were practitioners that started the business from scratch with their own skills and talent.

However, few are financial wizards or masters of business strategy that truly understand the mechanics of focusing on the key activities and metrics that drive exponential business growth.

I am conversant with the financials and I have delivered numerous game plans that have helped businesses of all sizes achieve more than their owners and CEOs thought possible.
